Jusqu'en 1832 la traversée de la Seine était assurée par un
bac.
On le remplaça par un pont suspendu de trois travées, construit par Bayard et Vergès.
Louis Philippe l'inaugura le 24 janvier 1832.Pour le traverser il en
coûtait 1 sous par piéton, 3 par voiture à 2 roues et 5 sous par voiture à 4 roues le
péage ne devait s'arrêter qu'en 1861.
Bien avant la révolution le pont devait être remplacé par un pont en pierre,
mais celui-ci ne vit le jour qu'en 1863 et devait être terminé en 1864 on l'appela pont
de la Gare.
Élargi en 1903 il porte depuis 1909 le viaduc du métropolitain
Until 1832 the crossing of the Seine was completed
by ferry, it has been replaced by a three bays suspended bridge constructed by Bayard and
Verges.Louis Phillipe inaugurated it on the 24th of January 1832.
In order to cross the bridge it cost 1 penny for each pedestrian, 3 pennies for a car with
2 wheels and 5 pennies for a car with 4 wheels. The toll remained in place until 1861. A
while before the revolution the existing bridge was meant to be replaced by a stone one,
however the latter appeared only in 1863 and was meant to have been completed by 1864, the
same year as the station. Hence we call it the ‘Bridge of the Station’.
Enlarged in 1903 the bridge has since 1909 borne the Metropolitan Viaduct.
