De 1842 à 1913 de nombreux projets voulaient
transformer la passerelle en pont carrossable, bombardé en 1918, la 5ème pile
endommagée par un automoteur en 1961, la 6ème par un pousseur en 1970, fermé à la
circulation en 1977, le pont s'effondre sur 60 m en 1979. Les plans de Louis Arretche sont
acceptés en 1981 et le nouveau pont sera ouvert en mai 1984.

From 1842 to 1913 a number of projects, which were wanted to transform the footbridges
into those suitable for vehicles, were bombed from the air in 1918. The fifth pile damaged
by a self-propelled barge in 1961, the sixth by a driven barge in 1970, closed to traffic
in 1977, the bridge collapsed by 60 meters in 1979. The designs by Louis Arretche were
accepted in 1981 and the new bridge would be opened in 1984. |
The bridge's name came
from Palais Des Arts, the name, which carried the Louvre at the time of its construction.
